Kaattu Azhagiya Singa Perumal Temple Srirangam
This place once was a dense forest and surrounded by the two rivers- named Cauvery in South and Coloroon in North. Being in dense forest, the temple was maintained only by the rishis and their families. Time and again wild animals attacked those families of the rishis.
Even though rishis had the power to destroy the animals just by their look, they didn't want to waste their power. Instead they underwent severe penance invoking blessings of Lord Narasimha. Pleased by the penance, Lord Narasimha appeared here blessing His darshan to rishis. As per their request, He stayed here with Goddess Lakshmi and have been protecting everyone who offer sincere prayers here.
Earlier the temple being in the midst of a forest and with minimal human existence, it was considered unsafe and the utsava murthy was kept and worshipped inside the Koorathaazhvan Sannidhi in Srirangam Temple.. That tradition has come to stay and even today the Utsavar of Lord Narasimha not kept here in Kaattu Azhagivya Singa Perumal Koil but in Srirangam Temple.
Once a year, on the evening session of Vijayadhasami day, Utsavar of Srirangam temple, Namperumal comes on a street procession to this temple in a palanquin. Goddess is believed to have undertaken penance at this place and handed Nam Perumal a bow and an arrow at the end of the 10th day of the Navarathri festival.
After Thirumanjam, the event of Lord Namperumal on a Horse Vaahanam, striking an arrow on the Vanni tree to signify the destruction of evil forces and protection of the devotees, is enacted every year on the Vijayadasami evening at this temple
Sri Aattru Azhagiya Singa Perumal Temple - Prarthana Sthalam for Marriage
Sri Aathu Azhagiya Singa Perumal Temple is located on the way to the Bye Pass Road from Chintamani, Trichy. Just before the Cauvery River Bridge leading to Thiruvanaikkoil from Chintamani, take the road that turns right leading towards Bye Pass road along the southern banks of Cauvery. The temple is to the left within few metres of turning right, where Sri Lakshmi Narasingha Perumal blessing facing towards East along with Lakshmi Devi on His left Thigh with “Anjali Hastha Mudra” facing Perumal towrads South. Sri Azhagiya ManavAla Perumal along with Sridevi and Bhoodevi, who was blessing as Moolvar earlier and later He has given His place of Mollva Murthy to Lakshmi Narsimhar and now blessing as Utsavar. There is a other Utsava Murthy of Sri Lakshmi Narasingha Perumal on His Garuda Vahanam can also be worshipped here.
Mettu Azhagiya Singa Perumal Srirangam - Where Kambar peruman Recited his Kamba Ramayanam
The Great Tamil Poet Kambar was from Therazhandur. He completed the illustrious Vaibhavam of Lord Raamachandra. He planned to come down to Srirangam to inagurate his Rama Kaviyam. Kambar arrived at Srirangam and he prayed Thayar for the maiden presentation (Arangetram) of his Rama Kaaviyam. Kambar was tried to recite his Kamba Ramayanam in Srirangam, but it was objected by the acharyars as in Kamba Ramayanam, there is “Hiranya Samharam “ ( A Story of Hiranya Avathar ). Kambar was adument and he toild the acharyas that let leave the decision to Perumal Himself and all should accept if he agrees. no more objections should be raised. He prayed the Almighty Surprisingly, there was a Roaring ( Huge Sound of a Lion ) sound from the Azhakiya Mettu Singar Sanctum sanctorum ( in the fifth prakaram ) that He accepted Kambar’s Ramayanam. Finally Kambar Peruman's Ramayanam was accepted by everyone there. This place is now called as "Kambar Mandapam". Just opposite to Kambar Mandapam, devotees can worship Mettu Azhagiya Singar, blessing with His Eight Arms with Hiranyakasipu on His lap and Bhakta Prahlada beneath His folded knee is near the north gopuram. |
